70-Foot Deep Sinkhole Unleashes Brutal Smell On Bay Ridge

It’s gone from bad to worse. A massive sinkhole has turned from traffic nightmare to sickening situation in Brooklyn. A sewer main broke more than two months ago in Bay Ridge, creating a huge hole in the street.
And as CBS 2’s Dave Carlin reported Friday night, the stench has now become a major problem.
Misery is how 92nd Street residents describe the slow, tedious work on the enormous sinkhole, which first formed back on June 28 and is still not close to being repaired.
Workers have been going down more than 70 feet to fix a busted 110-year-old sewer pipe. The hole has unleashed a non-stop sickening smell.

Response from a Banker:

After the dramatic multi-state foreclosure halts by three major servicers, GMAC, Bank of America, and JP Morgan, over the use of improper, “robo signed” affidavits, the new party line from these banks and others who also used robo signers, like Wells Fargo, is that this was a mere “technical” problem, that they had reviewed ten of thousands of pending foreclosures and claimed the underlying information and processes were sound.

A review by the New York Daily News indicates otherwise. Note that New York is a judicial foreclosure state. Be sure to read down to the sentence I boldfaced

New York to change street signs for $27 million

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/8035062/New-York-to-change-street-signs-for-27-million.html

The change you can believe in, and the costs that must be incurred by your State to do it.
I can't even find the sense in the reasoning given for it.
It's just another waste of money that the states don't already have.

New York’s capital-lettered street signs are to be replaced with new lower-cased versions, at a cost to the public of $27 million (£17 million).

City hall bosses are changing all 250,900 signs across New York, to comply with new guidelines introduced by Barack Obama’s government.

The Federal Highway Administration says the change should help prevent road accidents because lower-cased letters with wider spacing are easier to read, meaning drivers can keep their eyes on the road.

However, the costly change — which was opposed by New York and four other states

Introducing the new regulations, Ray LaHood, Mr Obama’s Transportation Secretary, said: “These new and updated standards will help make our nation’s roads and bridges safer for drivers, construction workers and pedestrians alike

N.Y. case against Greenberg "devastating": judge

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE63J51F20100420

No none of the corruption started yesterday kids. It's been going on a long time.
But if your a big enough corporation you can pay enough money to make your problem disappear.

New York state prosecutors have "a devastating case" against Maurice "Hank" Greenberg, the former American International Group Inc chief executive accused of fraud over a reinsurance transaction 10 years ago, the presiding judge said in court on Tuesday.

The transaction at issue long preceded taxpayer bailouts of about $180 billion for AIG after it nearly collapsed from mortgage-related losses. The revelation of the GenRe case contributed to Greenberg's ouster in 2005.

"This transaction is material because it was designed to, and did in fact, mislead investors about AIG's reserves," Ellenhorn told the court.

Federal prosecutors have obtained five criminal convictions and two guilty pleas of former General Re and AIG officials over the transaction, including a conviction of Ferguson. He was sentenced to two years in prison.

Last August, Greenberg agreed to pay $15 million to settle U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charges that he altered AIG's records to boost results between 2000 and 2005.

Three months later, Greenberg and AIG resolved years of litigation that followed his exit. AIG agreed to reimburse him and others for as much as $150 million of legal expenses.

Passengers on Virgin America flightmare forced to ration Pringles

http://www.news.com.au/travel/news/passengers-on-virgin-america-flightmare-forced-to-ration-pringles/story-e6frfq80-1225841597478

You know what makes this bizarre? It's now considered normal.

High winds divert flight from destination
Passengers trapped in plane for 7 hours
Food rationed to four chips, half a cup of water
Passenger posted crew meltdown on Twitter
PASSENGERS were forced to ration food after what was supposed to be a direct flight from LA to New York turned into a 16-hour nightmare.
Before finally arriving at their destination, the starving passengers of Virgin America Flight 404 had been stranded on a tarmac for seven hours and forced to ride a bus for another two-and-a-half hours.

The New York Post reported that food supplies aboard the plane were so low at one point Pringles chips had to be rationed: four chips apiece.

"That's all we got - four chips and half a cup of water," said Justin Gordon, 23.

Because of 60-mph winds in New York, the plane was forced to circle JFK until it was finally diverted to Stewart Airport in Newburgh, 90 miles (144km) north of New York.

..There, the plane remained on the tarmac until almost midnight, passengers said. The airline said the wait was more like four-and-a-half hours.
