Oklahoma asks Trump to declare coronavirus an 'act of God' to help oil producers

Life just became extremely interesting, with the request by Oklahoma's Governor.
What other ramifications or rewards could his request bring about if approved?
Perhaps State bond payments due?

Oklahoma's governor has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to declare the coronavirus pandemic an "act of God," a step to help oil-producing states contend with a crude glut that caused futures prices to close below $0 last week for the first time.
"Over-production of oil continues to threaten the economy," Governor J. Kevin Stitt said in a letter to Trump that Stitt posted on Twitter late on Saturday.
Declaring a "force majeure" or "act of God" would allow oil companies to halt operations without risking that land leases will be canceled for stopping production, Stitt said.

Understanding Force Majeure

Force majeure is a French term that literally means "greater force." It is related to the concept of an act of God, an event for which no party can be held accountable, such as a hurricane or a tornado. Force majeure also encompasses human actions, however, such as armed conflict. Generally speaking, for events to constitute force majeure, they must be unforeseeable, external to the parties of the contract, and unavoidable. These concepts are defined and applied differently depending on the jurisdiction.

Parents Told They Could Lose Kids Over Unpaid School Lunches

Pennsylvania school district is warning that children could end up in foster care if their parents do not pay overdue school lunch bills.
The letters sent recently to about 1,000 parents in Wyoming Valley West School District have led to complaints from parents and a stern rebuke from Luzerne County child welfare authorities.
The district says that it is trying to collect more than $20,000, and that other methods to get parents to pay have not been successful. Four parents owe at least $450 apiece.

Oklahoma man, 37, arrested after he 'raped a four-year-old girl in a McDonald's restroom while she left her carers to use the bathroom during a daycare field trip'

A 37-year-old Oklahoma man has been jailed on rape complaints after authorities said he sexually assaulted a four-year-old girl in a bathroom at a McDonald's play area, which the child was visiting during a day care field trip.
Midwest City police say a day care worker knocked on the locked bathroom door at 7025 SE 15th Street on Tuesday after the girl didn't return promptly.
A police affidavit says a man eventually came out and said, 'I was just washing my hands.'
The child told workers the man, identified as Joshua David Kabatra, sexually assaulted her.
Kabatra told police that he had felt sick and threw up in the bathroom sink while the girl was on the toilet, News 9 reports.

Former Brooklyn man busted as high-ranking ISIS sniper

The feds have busted a former Brooklyn resident they called a top ISIS sniper who had visited Syria and gave “material support” to the bloodthirsty jihadis.
According to a criminal complaint released Friday, Ruslan Maratovich Asainov, 41, was a naturalized US citizen born in Kazakhstan who lived in Brooklyn between 1998 and 2013.
The accused terrorist was detained overseas by the Syrian Democratic Forces and was later transferred to US custody and arrived at JFK on Thursday, the feds said.
“In December 2013, the defendant traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, which is a common transit point to obtain entry into Syria. He subsequently entered Syria, joined ISIS, and became a sniper for the terrorist organization,” according to the complaint.
“Over time, the defendant rose through the ranks to become an ISIS ‘emir’ in charge of

A 77-year-old murderer — back on the streets because he was deemed too old to kill again — was convicted this week of fatally stabbing a Maine woman while her twin children watched.
It took less than an hour for jurors in Auburn to find Albert Flick guilty of murdering Kimberly Dobbie, 48, outside a Lewiston laundromat on July 15, 2018.
Her twin 11-year-old sons were nearby and security cameras captured the moments they ran to their mother as she was being killed.

Boeing loses appeal over Oklahoma workers' retirement benefits

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2011382802_boeing19.html

The Appeals Court affirmation of that outcome is scathingly worded, rejecting Boeing's legal arguments as "desperate."

The court said it recognized Boeing's desire to avoid paying lifetime benefits to early retirees and noted that similar collective bargaining commitments had helped drive General Motors and Chrysler into bankruptcy.

"But Boeing is stuck with the commitments," the court ruled. "It was not required to provide lifetime benefits to workers represented by the UAW, but it agreed to do so and must live with its decision."

OK's need for revenue advancement "Big Brother" style

State officials are looking at beefing up the state’s electronic insurance verification system by setting up cameras across the state to randomly record vehicle tags.

Cameras set up at about 200 locations along selected highways would focus in on a tag’s bar code — found at the bottom of each tag — and record it. Bar code scanners would match the tag numbers with a national database containing real-time vehicle insurance information.

Vehicle owners without valid insurance would be mailed a ticket.

"That’s a horrible idea,” said Rep. Mike Reynolds, R-Oklahoma City. "It’s Big Brother at its finest.”

The proposed automated enforcement would expand Oklahoma’s existing system, which went online in July. The system now checks only Oklahoma vehicles; checks are made only when a vehicle owner has an encounter with a law enforcement officer, such as a traffic stop or being in an accident
