Heh Look, We're Above The Law!

Oh crap Karl,
If their check bounced that means it wasn't a viable job.
Now what does that do to the unemployment numbers they just released?
Next months revision is just going to be that much higher.

From Cincinnati....

CINCINNATI - The election is over, but many campaign workers had problems getting paid.

People who worked for the Ohio Democratic Party's office at Jordan Crossing said they did not receive checks they were promised, and others said that their paychecks bounced.

That's a crime. It's called "uttering", or in the more common, passing bad checks.

And in most states if the check is over $500 it's a felony.

The workers said that they were promised $100 to $175 a day for their services.

Likely over $500 then.

9 News tried to speak three men identified by Ohio Democratic Party workers as employees of The Lancer Group.

One man said he understood why the unpaid workers were upset. He also promised workers would be paid.

Another man, driving a SUV with Washington, D.C. plates, pushed a 9 News camera and refused to answer questions.

An Ohio Democratic Party worker refused to allow 9 News to enter their office then locked the door.

Why aren't the police at the door arresting the people inside? This isn't a mistake, it's a crime.

"Our Get-out-the-Vote program was the largest in the country, involving thousands of Ohioans from across the state. The processing of checks for paid canvassers is taking longer than expected due to an error by the payroll firm, the Lancer Group. It is important to us that everyone who worked hard in our election efforts is paid as promised, and the Lancer Group is working to fix this issue and they are issuing checks today."

Rubber checks aren't an error. They're a criminal offense.

Try writing a few of them around town and see how it works out for you. We have a local publication called "Cuffed" which is, as you might expect, full of mugshots of people arrested.

A fair number of them are busted for writing rubber checks.

Again: Why is a political party above the same laws that you and I are expected to uphold? And if this is going to stand, can you explain to me why I - or anyone else - should follow the law?
