I do believe this is a historical first.
This time, the picture is the story.
After the Secret Service insisted that President Barack Obama was never endangered by a security breach that allowed a couple to crash his first state dinner, the White House has released a photo showing that not only did the pair get close to Obama, they actually shook hands and talked to him.
As the White House was disclosing that the Virginia couple, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, met Obama in the receiving line, a "deeply concerned and embarrassed" Secret Service on Friday acknowledged that its officers never checked whether the two were on the guest list before letting them onto the White House grounds.
The White House released a photo showing the Salahis in the receiving line in the Blue Room with Obama and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in whose honor the dinner was held. Obama and reality TV hopeful Michaele Salahi are smiling as she grasps his right hand with both of hers and her husband looks on. Singh is standing to Obama's left.

Climategate e-mails sweep America, may scuttle Barack Obama's Cap and Trade laws
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/geraldwarner/100018034/climategate-%20%20e-mails-sweep-america-may-scuttle-barack-obamas-cap-and-trade-laws/
Just a few considerations in addition to previous remarks about the explosion of the East Anglia Climategate e-mails in America. The reaction is growing exponentially there. Fox News, Barack Obama’s Nemesis, is now on the case, trampling all over Al Gore’s organic vegetable patch and breaking the White House windows. It has extracted some of the juiciest quotes from the e-mails and displayed them on-screen, with commentaries. Joe Public, coast-to-coast, now knows, thanks to the clowns at East Anglia’s CRU, just how royally he has been screwed

9/11 tragedy pager intercepts.
http://911.wikileaks.org/
Now what plausible explanation (lies) can the government come up with to make this information non acceptable to be seen for what it really is, which is the cover up of what really happened on 9/11.
From 3AM on Wednesday November 25, 2009, until 3AM the following day (US east coast time), WikiLeaks is releasing over half a million US national text pager intercepts. The intercepts cover a 24 hour period surrounding the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington.
The messages are being broadcast to the global community "live", sychronized to the time of day they were sent. The first message is from 3AM September 11, 2001, five hours before the first attack, and the last, 24 hours later.
Text pagers are usualy carried by persons operating in an official capacity. Messages in the archive range from Pentagon and New York Police Department exchanges, to computers reporting faults to their operators as the World Trade Center collapsed.
The archive is a completely objective record of the defining moment of our time. We hope that its revelation will lead to a more nuanced understanding of the event and its tragic consequences.
An index of messages released so far is available here.

German 'Robin Hood' banker gets suspended sentence
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8376532.stm
I wish they would have put up a donation address to help this lady out, because I would gladly donate to it. It takes a very special person to put their own @ss on the line to help out those who really need it and she was definitely one special lady.
A German bank employee who secretly transferred money from rich to poor clients has been given a 22-month suspended prison term.
The 62-year-old woman, dubbed the 'Robin Hood Banker', moved more than $11m (£7m) in 117 transfers.
The court in Bonn was told that the employee, who has not been named, took no money for herself.
The bank made a loss of more than $1.5m (£1m) when poor customers were unable to pay back unauthorised overdrafts.
The employee was accused of allowing overdrafts for customers who would not normally qualify for them

Yes, really.
Off the wire this morning:
FDIC Deposit fund had negative $8.2B balance in Q3
That's broke. Bankrupt. Kaput. Gone. Poof. Dead. Rotting. A corpse.
Yes, yes, I know, Treasury has their back. But let's not forget - The FDIC does not have a legal "full faith and credit" guarantee from the US Federal Government and Treasury.
It has a "sense of Congress" resolution, but not a formal, legally-binding guarantee.

Major Victory with Swine Flu Scandal
http://www.foodconsumer.org/newsite/Non-food/Disease/major_victory_with_swine_flu_scandal_191120090720.html
Swine flu was just a money making hype,
European scientists and health authorities are facing angry questions about why H1N1 flu has not caused death and destruction on the scale first feared, and they need to respond deftly to ensure public support.
Accusations are flying in British and French media that the pandemic has been "hyped" by medical researchers to further their own cause, boost research grants and line the pockets of drug companies.
However, in Britain, health authorities' original worst-case scenario -- which said as many as 65,000 could die from H1N1 -- has twice been revised down and the prediction is now for around 1,000 deaths, way below the average annual toll of 4,000 to 8,000 deaths from seasonal winter flu.
But this is the horse of a different color that's being covered up.

Do yourself a favor and know where your food comes from and how it gets there
By the way the reason part 9 has been banned is because you will see many of your elected officials and their flunky placements are from the corporate world.
The financial industry is not the only one running your government.
It's time to take real hard look at what the corporate world has done not only to our country but also the rest of the world.
Part 9 has been BANNED, therefore you must use this to watch it "http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/food-inc /" or everything. But Megavideo have a 72 minutes limit per user per day or something.

Ukraine Dead Increase to 213 - Still No Sequences
http://www.recombinomics.com/News/11110903/Ukraine_213.html
Death toll more than doubled in a week and continues to grow.
Take a look at the map
The above figures are from the latest update from the Ukraine Ministry of Health. The biggest increase in cases was again in Kiev, with 6958 new cases report in the past 24 hours. The 83,243 reported cases is the second highest, which again signals the spread of the virus to the east. Lviv oblast still has the most cases, 171,781, and deaths, 81. Only 7 of the 27 reporting locations have not crossed the epidemic threshold, and now most locations have reported deaths (see map). The jump in reported deaths to 213 represents an increase of 24 in 24 hours and raises concerns that the death toll will continue to rise due to the large number of patients who are still hospitalized (25,968 of the hospitalized patients above have been discharged).
The deaths include the 90 who were detailed previously, but media reports claim that only 17of the 213 are due to swine flu, which is due to the limited testing / collection of samples. These under-representations of swine flu cases and deaths are widespread and create continual confusion. The only flu circulating in Europe is swine flu, which accounts for the vast majority of the more than 1 million cases listed above.

For $20, kids can buy a better grade
http://www.newsobserver.com/news/education/story/185460.html
What's wrong with this picture?
Selling candy didn't raise much money last year, so a Goldsboro middle school is selling grades.
A $20 donation to Rosewood Middle School will get a student 20 test points - 10 extra points on two tests of the student's choosing. That could raise a B to an A, or a failing grade to a D.
Susie Shepherd, the principal, said a parent advisory council came up with the idea, and she endorsed it. She said the council was looking for a new way to raise money.

Belarus Reports Almost 1/4 Million Flu Cases
http://www.recombinomics.com/News/11100903/Belarus_QMillion.html
The above translation describes a significant influenza outbreak in Belarus, which has many similarities with Ukraine. Eight pneumonia deaths have been reported in Gomel, which is adjacent to the Kiev Oblast in Ukraine (see map). In the latest report from Ukraine, the largest increases in cases were in Kiev and Kiev Oblast. In addition, 10 suspect H1N1 deaths in Minsk have been reported suggesting that the deaths may also be linked to H1N1 and hemorrhagic pneumonia. 90 such fatalities were described in Ukraine, and the total disintegration of both lungs is similar to cases described in the United States and Mexico, as well as cases in 1918.
The cases in Belarus are widespread and the numbers cited for Gomel would be above the epidemic threshold. Most areas in Ukraine are also above the epidemic threshold, while the remaining areas are near the threshold.

Vancouver police get sonic crowd control device
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/11/10/bc-long-range-accoustic-device-vancouver-police.html
Vancouver police have a new crowd control device capable of emitting painfully loud blasts of sound, just in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics, CBC News has learned.
The medium-range acoustic device (MRAD) can use sound as a weapon, emitting piercing sounds at frequency levels that cross the human threshold of pain and are potentially damaging to hearing, say audio experts.
But it is primarily designed as a communications device that's clearly audible up to a kilometre away, say police.
Const. Lindsay Houghton said the device was first tested this summer as a public address system during the Celebration of Light fireworks events in Vancouver.
'Backing into things like this without proper public discussion ... is simply not good policy."
—Robert Holmes, president of the B.C. Civil Liberties AssociationHoughton said police don't plan to use the device for anything more than communication.

Justice Dept. Asked For News Site's Visitor Lists

In a case that raises questions about online journalism and privacy rights, the U.S. Department of Justice sent a formal request to an independent news site ordering it to provide details of all reader visits on a certain day.
The grand jury subpoena also required the Philadelphia-based Indymedia.us Web site "not to disclose the existence of this request" unless authorized by the Justice Department, a gag order that presents an unusual quandary for any news organization.
Kristina Clair, a 34-year old Linux administrator living in Philadelphia who provides free server space for Indymedia.us, said she was shocked to receive the Justice Department's subpoena. Why Jamie Dimon Wants to Silence Paul Volcker

Outstanding video
This week marks the 10-year anniversary of one of the great bipartisan failures in modern American history: the repeal of Glass-Steagall.
On November 12, 1999, President Bill Clinton signed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which repealed the Depression-era separation of commercial and investment banks.
Repealing Glass-Steagall was "obnoxious" and a bipartisan "absurdity," says Charlie Gasparino, author of The Sellout and CNBC's on-air editor. The end result of the repeal was you have "taxpayers subsidizing risk-taking" on Wall Street, he continues. "It's the most anti-capitalist thing I've ever heard of in my life."

What have they sprayed the city with kids? Something is very wrong in the Ukraine.
This is not the H1N1 flu virus. MSM when it does speak of it is pushing the spin.
No worries here everything is just fine, meanwhile they are cremating the bodies of those who have died from it.
Journalists are dying and the bloggers are being sought after for calling this spade for the reality that it really is, a highly communicable pneumonic plague that is rapidly spreading.
Keep your ears to the ground kids, it won't be long before it comes to a theater near you.
Spread the word, Houston "WE" have a problem and,
The voice of "The World" needs to address it now, before it's to late!

Recession's good news: Cities see burglaries fall
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Recessions-good-news-Cities-apf-1371256971.html?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=8&asset=&ccode=
The bright side of a bad situation.
Ever since he was laid off in March, Frank Beil has been on the lookout.
AP - Patrick Rosario displays a new security system panel in his home Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, in Bellevue, Wash. ...
He keeps an eye out for cars moving slowly down the street or strangers walking along the sidewalk of his suburban Chicago neighborhood. He wonders about the times he answers the phone and the caller hangs up.
"You don't know if that might be people staking you out, finding out if you're home or not," said the 71-year-old hospital chaplain from Glenview.
Beil is watching for burglars, and police nationwide credit him and those like him for one of the few bright spots of the recession: The number of home burglaries is falling in some cities and towns.
"With a lot more unemployed people, a lot more people are staying home, and they see more in their neighborhood," said Sgt. Thomas Lasater, who supervises the burglary unit of the police department in St. Louis County, Mo., where authorities recorded a whopping 35 percent drop in burglaries during the first six months of 2009.

Reported Ukraine Cases Top One Million - 174 Fatalities
http://www.recombinomics.com/News/11090905/Ukraine_Million_Top.html
1,031,597 Influenza/ARI
52,742 Hospitalized
174 Dead
The latest update for Ukraine includes more than 1 million reported cases (see map). The fatalities have jumped from 155 to 174 and almost 53K have been hospitalized. The biggest jump in fatalities was in Lviv, where reported deaths rose from 63 to 74. However, the largest jump in cases was in Kiev, raising concerns that the infections were spreading east.
The increase in cases and deaths continue to support a genetic change in the H1N1 virus. However, there have been no updates on samples which were sent to London over a week ago

Silence about Vaccine Deaths in Media is Due to the Confidential Contracts with Vaccine Manufacturers

I am a Swedish general practioner working in Belgium, and quite involved in this issue, as together with three citizens and another GP we advised the Belgian Government last Friday in court that this is a disguised pharmaceutical trial on human subjects, with real risks involved.
I put in two comments on the story (see below), that are quite relevant in the context that the Swedish Newspapers have seemingly stopped reporting the intermediary results of this disguised pharmaceutical trial.
If you can read French, you will discover at http://www.lepoint2.com/sons/pdf/vaccin-H1N1 medias.pdf that the maker of PandemRix, that is used in Sweden, passed a secret contract, the same in every European country, which specified a "Green List" of what the government MAY communicate (hardly anything!) and the "Red List" of what may absolutely NOT be made public, like intermediary results of the side effects that appear in the studies of the controversial squalene (and thiomersal) adjuvantated PandemRix until they have been sanitized by Glaxo Smith Kline researchers, and published by GSK themselves.
These contracts also confirm what was announced in Sweden in October, that these pandemic vaccines where actually ordered already back in 2006: there was a standing order to foresee a vaccination for large parts of the population

UKRAINE POLICE REMOVED MEDICAL RECORDS FROM HOSPITALS!!
http://ukraineplague.blogspot.com/2009/11/update-110909-819am-ukraine-police.html
Now ask yourself why the police are doing that. MSM chooses to ignore this deadly situation, and that in itself after all the H1N1 hype of the last six months is rather odd behavior don't you think?
In this press article - the Ukraine Health Minister almost says What it really is!! He says Death is in 4 to 7 days of patients!! (If that is the case - then the amount Dead is Much more than listed) Also he tells the hospitals to copy all files now - because of the Police taking the records!

Ukraine virus
http://www.recombinomics.com/News/11090902/Ukraine_1918.html
Ask yourself why people, that the WHO (world health organization) and the media are telling you NOTHING about the massive virus outbreak in the Ukraine?
It's live and it's spreading because it highly communicable.
The explosion of cases in Ukraine, and delays in the release of sequences from fatal cases in Ukraine is a cause for increasing concern. Recent accelerations of deaths have been widespread across the northern hemisphere, raising concerns that receptor binding domain changes described above, as well as a third polymorphism at position 225, D225E, (see list) are gaining traction as the swine H1N1 adapts to human hosts.

Ukraine epidemic
Beware my friends, the epidemic victims in the Ukraine have doubled their numbers,
those that have contracted the virus as well as the death toll it's self.
Last Wednesday 450,000 people had it, now the victim count is 900,000. The death toll last Wednesday stood at 86, now over 150 people have died. Their hospitals are over flowing and a call for International help has gone out and has been heard and is being responded to by their close neighbors.
Air travel will spread this world wide, this is not the swine flu or a mutant strain of it.
It would be prudent to put away some extra groceries and any medications that are imperative to your well being.
Better to be safe my friends than sorry.

Israel proposes work camps for illegal migrants
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1126057.html
What's wrong with this picture? And why is the idea acceptable now, when it was a holocaust then?
The government is considering establishing work camps in the south of the country, where illegal migrant workers will receive shelter, food and medical care, Army Radio reported Wednesday. In exchange, illegal migrants would perform manual labor outside the camps, but would not earn a salary.
They would stay at the camp until their asylum claims are decided, which could take months or years.
The proposal, part of the effort to address the problems posed by illegal migrants, would place asylum seekers at jobs in communities in the Negev and Arava. Their salaries would go to the state, in order to fund the camps.

The issue of illegal foreign migrants and refugees has made the headlines due to the efforts by human rights organizations to block the deportation of 1,200 foreign workers' children. One of the main arguments by deportation advocates, including Interior Minister Eli Yishai (Shas), is that allowing them to stay would bring hundreds of thousands more illegal migrants.
They would bring in "a range of diseases such as hepatitis, measles, tuberculosis and AIDS [as well as] drugs," said Yishai

Chemtrails release aluminum and barium as well as a few other little goodies that are detrimental to our breathing health, perhaps the ban should start there first.
Fireworks produce brilliant coloured displays, but they also create a shower of toxic chemicals.
Aluminium produces the bright white colours, while antimony sulphide produces the glittering shimmers. The bright blues are created by copper compounds, while the green colours are produced by barium nitrate. The red colours are manufactured using strontium.
Scientists have linked a number of these with health disorders.

BLOOMBERG: Mr Blankfein, the son of a Brooklyn postal worker, believes that banks serve a "social purpose" and argues that the return of big profits and bonuses should be welcomed as proof the economy is recovering.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, he argued: "We're very important. We help companies to grow by helping them to raise capital. Companies that grow create wealth. This, in turn, allows people to have jobs that create more growth and more wealth. We have a social purpose."

It is always curious how governments in the past have had "Training Drills" on something that then occurs a short time later. This case is no different. btw: The Plague is also referred to as "The Black Death"!
Interpol had a Training Drill on the "Black Death/Plague" and it being Bioterrorism in Sept., which took place in Poland.
From Interpol's Website regarding the Drill:
In September 2009, senior law enforcement officials, health care professionals and experts from international organizations joined their forces to confront a chilling crisis – the plague had just been unleashed on their countries by unknown evildoers.

The Evil Empire By Paul Craig Roberts
http://www.rense.com/general88/evil.htm
The US government is now so totally under the thumbs of organized interest groups that "our" government can no longer respond to the concerns of the American people who elect the president and the members of the House and Senate. Voters will vent their frustrations over their impotence on the president, which implies a future of one-term presidents. Soon our presidents will be as ineffective as Roman emperors in the final days of that empire.
Obama is already set on the course to a one-term presidency. He promised change, but has delivered none. His health care bill is held hostage by the private insurance companies seeking greater profits. The most likely outcome will be cuts in Medicare and Medicaid in order to help fund wars that enrich the military/security complex and the many companies created by privatizing services that the military once provided for itself at far lower costs. It would be interesting to know the percentage of the $700+ billion "defense" spending that goes to private companies. In American "capitalism," an amazing amount of taxpayers' earnings go to private firms via the government. Yet, Republicans scream about "socializing" health care.
Republicans and Democrats saw opportunities to create new sources of campaign contributions by privatizing as many military functions as possible. There are now a large number of private companies that have never made a dollar in the market, feeding instead at the public trough that drains taxpayers of dollars while loading Americans with debt service obligations.

Report: 237 millionaires in Congress
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1109/29235.html
Millionaires represent "The People". Is there any wonder why "The People's" voice is never heard
Talk about bad timing.
As Washington reels from the news of 10.2 percent unemployment, the Center for Responsive Politics is out with a new report describing the wealth of members of Congress.
Among the highlights: Two-hundred-and-thirty-seven members of Congress are millionaires. That’s 44 percent of the body – compared to about 1 percent of Americans overall.
CRP says California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa is the richest lawmaker on Capitol Hill, with a net worth estimated at about $251 million. Next in line: Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), worth about $244.7 million; Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), worth about $214.5 million; Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), worth about $209.7 million; and Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), worth about $208.8 million.
All told, at least seven lawmakers have net worths greater than $100 million, according to the Center’s 2008 figures.
“Many Americans probably have a sense that members of Congress aren’t hurting, even if their government salary alone is in the six figures, much more than most Americans make,” said CRP spokesman Dave Levinthal. “What we see through these figures is that many of them have riches well beyond that salary, supplemented with securities, stock holdings, property and other investments.”
The CRP numbers are somewhat rough estimates – lawmakers are required to report their financial information in broad ranges of figures, so it’s

PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail

These people are insane
Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.”

Fannie Mae to Rent Foreclosed Homes Back to Borrowers

How to hide the evidence of an over saturated housing market and make the lie to the people that things are turning for the better seem credible in easy lesson. Hey there might be a bright side to this though. Fannie will generate a little income and might not have to have that taxpayer handout it so desperately needs.
Fannie Mae plans to allow homeowners facing foreclosure to stay in their homes and rent them for up to one year as part of the latest effort to help troubled borrowers while keeping a glut of foreclosed properties from hitting the housing market.
The Deed for Lease Program, which Fannie plans to roll out on Thursday, will offer borrowers who fail to complete or don't qualify for a loan modification or other workout to deed their property to the lender in exchange for a lease. Borrowers-turned-tenants will be able to sign leases of up to 12 months and will pay market rents, which in most cases are lower than the cost of mortgage payments.
Fannie Mae wouldn't say how many homeowners it expects will take advantage of the program. The company acquired 57,000 properties through foreclosure during the first half of the year, bringing its total real-estate owned inventory to 63,000 properties valued at $6 billion. The rental program will allow Fannie to hold inventory off of already saturated housing markets and makes a bet that the housing market will be stronger one year from now.

Bird deaths present problem at wind farms
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/environment/2009-09-21-wind-farms_N.htm?obref=obnetwork
For years, a huge wind farm in California's San Joaquin Valley was slaughtering thousands of birds, including golden eagles, red-tailed hawks and burrowing owls.
The raptors would get sliced up by the blades on the 5,400 turbines in Altamont Pass, or electrocuted by the wind farm's power lines. Scientists, wildlife agencies and turbine experts came together in an attempt to solve the problem. The result?
Protective measures put in place in an effort to reduce deaths by 50% failed. Deaths in fact soared for three of four bird species studied, said the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area Bird Fatality Study.
The slaughter at Altamont Pass is being raised by avian scientists who say the drive among environmentalists to rapidly boost U.S. wind-farm power 20 times could lead to massive bird losses and even extinctions.
New wind projects "have the potential of killing a lot of migratory birds," said Michael Fry, director of conservation advocacy at the American Bird Conservancy in Washington.

Bubbles: The FED and the bankrupt GSE's
http://market-ticker.denninger.net/archives/1577-Bubbles-The-Fed-And-Bankrupt-GSEs.html
And while Barney laughs and makes jokes Main Street dies a slow painful death from the incompetence of fools.
From The Wall Street Examiner comes this:
Another anomaly of note is the fact that 10 year Fannie paper is now yielding less than 10 year Treasuries. This is another sign of mass psychosis. Unfortunately, the source of the infection has been Bernanke’s insane policy of piling up risky MBS paper on the Fed’s balance sheet. Wave after weekly wave of Fed buying has created one of the most ridiculous market distortions in history. Unfortunately, the problem it was designed to solve, the housing market collapse, isn’t responding.
This is more than ridiculous. It is in fact outrageous.
The GSEs are in fact bankrupt. This is why they were taken into "conservatorship" and have required roughly $100 billion in direct taxpayer subsidy to remain "breathing", much like a brain-stem-only human requires thousands of dollars a day in direct input in the form of a ventilator and mechanical feeding (not to mention diaper changes and similar) to remain "alive."
This distortion allegedly is supposed to "help" the housing market.
It has done no such thing.
It has led Barney Frank to pronounce that intentionally making bad loans is a "policy", and the market laughs, knowing that The Fed is directly monetizing the very same debt - after saying it wouldn't

JP Morgan and the Alabama awaps
http://market-ticker.denninger.net/archives/1578-JP-Morgan-And-Alabama-Swaps.html
Yeah I know this is a repeat, but Karl says it so much better and is just as disgusted by the idea that corporate crime is just paid away as if that's all that can be done to chase away the vultures that feed on live prey.
But I see that something can actually be really done to stop them and now have to wonder why it hasn't been.
They can be stripped of their corporate charter. Deals like the Alabama swaps deserve a little more than the slap on the wrist fine that Morgan allowed to receive.
Amazing story here.... you really need to read the whole thing. The salient point is here:
The county paid JPMorgan and a group of banks $120.2 million in fees for $5.8 billion of derivatives, according to a series of stories published by Bloomberg News in 2005. The payments were about $100 million more than they should have been based on prevailing rates, according to estimates in 2007 by James White, an adviser the county hired after the SEC said it was investigating the deals.
That's six times what they should have cost - that is, six hundred percent of market price or a 500% overcharge.
Must be nice eh? What did they do to get this? Allegedly:
The SEC alleged that JPMorgan, Charles LeCroy, the banker who pitched the refinancing to Jefferson County, and Douglas MacFaddin, the former head of the New York-based bank’s municipal derivatives desk, made more than $8 million in undisclosed payments to close friends of county commissioners. The associates owned or worked at local-broker dealer firms that didn’t do any work on the deals, the SEC said.
Not bad. Pay $8 million in kickbacks and get $100 million in overcharge. The allegedly-bribed weren't very good negotiators - you'd think they would have gotten half, right?
And again, we settle for a fine and of course admit no guilt.
Budget Bites Into Tax Withholdings

Unbelievable but sadly true.
SACRAMENTO, CA - Come November, you may notice your paycheck is a bit smaller. As part of the state budget fix, lawmakers are "borrowing" future income withholding taxes in order to raise $1.7 billion for this fiscal year.
"It's not raising taxes. It's just getting the money, borrowing from you for a short period, non-interest bearing, and you'll get it back later," explained Sacramento accountant Ken Astle

FHA Digging Out After Loans Sour
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125729000674726513.html#articleTabs%3Dcomments
Here comes another bailout. Do you really think they don't know what they're doing?
Last fall, as the financial system was teetering and the biggest banks were tightening credit, Karen DeForte couldn't find a lender to refinance the two mortgages on her New York home, until she received a phone call from Lend America.
Most banks rejected Ms. DeForte because her debt level was too high and her credit score too low. But Lend America put Ms. DeForte into a $402,000 loan backed by the Federal Housing Administration, a New Deal-era agency that Washington and Wall Street were relying upon to pick up the slack in the mortgage market as private lenders pulled back. Ms. DeForte fell behind on payments six months later and is seeking a loan modification. Taking the loan was "a stupid mistake," the 46-year-old office manager said.
In late 2007 and early 2008, thousands of borrowers with marginal credit were allowed to refinance via the government-insured FHA program, just as home-price declines began to accelerate. Policy makers were urging the agency to fill the gap left by the exit of private lenders, refinancing subprime borrowers out of loans that threatened to reset to unaffordable payments.
Although the FHA has tightened credit standards, many of the 2007 and early 2008 mortgages are going bad. The agency expects defaults on 24% of all loans insured in 2007, and 20% of those backed in 2008. "The orders from Congress and us were clear: We want to save as many families as we can, recognizing that a lot of loans people were looking to refinance out of should never have been made in the first place," said Brian Montgomery, who served as the agency's commissioner for four years ending in July.

JPMorgan settlement with SEC worth over $700M
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/JPMorgan-settlement-with-SEC-apf-3297524178.html?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=1&asset=&ccode=
How convenient, I believe if it was you or I who had done this jail time would have ensued. I stopped counting how many of these "pay off the problem" deals have been brokered.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. has agreed to a settlement worth more than $700 million over federal regulators' charges that it made unlawful payments to friends of public officials to win municipal bond business in Jefferson County, Ala.
The scandal over the county's $3.9 billion debt has pushed it to the brink of filing what would be the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. The Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday announced the settlement with JPMorgan, which canceled interest-rate swap contracts with the county worth $700 million in March.
The Wall Street bank did not admit or deny the SEC allegations in agreeing to pay a $25 million civil fine, a $50 million payment to the county and to forfeit $647 million in termination fees it claims the county owes from the canceled swap agreements.
The SEC also accused two former managing directors of JPMorgan, Charles LeCroy and Douglas MacFaddin, of securities law violations. The agency is seeking unspecified restitution from them. MacFaddin will contest the charges.
The SEC alleged that JPMorgan, LeCroy and MacFaddin made about $8 million in undisclosed payments to close friends of several Jefferson County commissioners. Starting in July 2002, LeCroy and MacFaddin solicited the county for a $1.4 billion sewer bond deal.
Swayed by the payments, the county commissioners voted to select JPMorgan's securities division as managing underwriter of the bond offerings and its affiliated bank as swap provider for the transactions, the SEC said.
JPMorgan failed to disclose any of the unlawful payments or conflicts of interest in the bond offering documents, but passed on the cost of the payments by charging the county higher interest rates on the swap transactions, according to the SEC.

Why did blue-chip Goldman take a walk on subprime's wild side?
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/77852.html
Goldman Sachs was one of the last Wall Street giants to enter the subprime lending world, but when it did, it quickly climbed into bed with profligate, highflying firms — companies such as New Century Financial Corp.
In at least nine deals from 2002 to 2007, Goldman sold bonds backed by more than $5 billion of New Century's mortgages, one even after the California lender's underwriting criteria all but disintegrated and a cash squeeze paralyzed its operation. Goldman also marketed at least three secret offshore deals bearing New Century's name.
Goldman has yet to explain why it risked its blue-chip reputation and financial health to buy and repackage at least $135 billion in loans mostly originated by companies that have since gone bust.
Goldman spokesman Michael DuVally stressed, however, that the firm "was not the largest purchaser of loans from any of these mortgage originators, and in some cases was actually quite a small purchaser."
A glimpse inside New Century's operations sheds light on how one of Wall Street's proudest and most prestigious firms helped create a market for junk mortgages, contributing to the economic morass

Supreme Court seeks White House views on hiring illegals
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/257/story/78204.html
The Obama administration will enter the politically tricky immigration arena, courtesy of the Supreme Court.
On Monday, the court asked the administration for its views in a challenge to an Arizona law that punishes companies for hiring illegal aliens. Other states with large immigrant populations will watch the next steps closely, because their own laws and ballot measures could be on the line.
"This case involves a question of exceptional national importance: whether state legislatures and municipal governments may override Congress' judgment concerning United States immigration policy," attorney Carter Phillips wrote in a legal brief.
Phillips noted that "in the first three months of 2009 alone, over 1,000 immigration-related bills and resolutions were introduced, in all 50 states" and "at least 150 of these bills related specifically to employment." He called the result "a cacophony."
A famed Supreme Court litigator, Phillips represents the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The business group is challenging the Arizona law as part of a coalition of corporate, labor and immigrant groups that range from the American Civil Liberties Union to the Arizona Farm Bureau Federation.
The challenged law, written in 2006, allows private complaints to be filed against employers. Those found to have "knowingly or intentionally" hired illegal immigrants could have their Arizona state business licenses suspended or revoked.
The law "reflects rising frustration with the United States Congress' failure to
enact comprehensive immigration reform," the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said in a ruling that upheld the law.

Goldman takes on new role: taking away people's homes
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/77841.html?storylink=omni_popular
When California wildfires ruined their jewelry business, Tony Becker and his wife fell months behind on their mortgage payments and experienced firsthand the perils of subprime mortgages.
The couple wound up in a desperate, six-year fight to keep their modest, 1,500-square-foot San Jose home, a struggle that pushed them into bankruptcy.
The lender with whom they sparred, however, wasn't the one that had written their loans. It was an obscure subsidiary of Wall Street colossus Goldman Sachs Group

Has Baxter Released A BioWeapon In Ukraine?
http://www.rense.com/general88/bax.htm
Another interesting coincidence
Moshe claimed that Baxter's laboratory in the Ukraine out of all places was creating this biological weapon. All of this came out in the beginning of August, which is more than 2 months before the situation that is currently unfolding. For Moshe to correctly name the country where a new epidemic would be unleashed, requires either inside information, or an incredible coincidence as anyone with a basic knowledge of statistics can confirm for himself.

Audit warns KBR to cut number of employees in Iraq
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gLxYJdCdB58y0DuI04hs-asEm_XAD9BMOJE00
Pentagon auditors are warning the Army's primary support contractor in Iraq, responsible for everything from mail and laundry to housing and meals, to cut its work force there or face nearly $200 million in penalties for keeping thousands too many on the payroll.
According to an internal Defense Department audit, Houston-based KBR Inc. has increased employee levels while U.S. troops steadily leave the country after more than six years of war. As a result, the U.S. government is paying far more in labor costs in Iraq than it should as military resources are shifted to Afghanistan.
"Each day that passes without taking action results in continued overstaffing and inefficiency," the report from the Defense Contract Audit Agency says.
The Oct. 26 audit, obtained by The Associated Press, opens a window into a behind-the-scenes battle over KBR's billing and management practices. The company provides crucial battlefield services under a $33.8 billion, 10-year deal signed in 2001.
There have been serious disagreements between KBR and defense auditors, who have challenged billions of dollars in charges as questionable.

Why Wasn't Military Notified When Northwest Flight Went Missing?
http://abcnews.go.com/WN/military-no...ry?id=8952014#
Inquiring minds want to know!
In the wake of 9/11 the American public has been duped into believing we needed a new agency called Homeland Security.
Well here it is in it's finest hour proving without a shadow of a doubt, that it is as useless as two tits on a bull.
As the pilots of Northwest flight 188 overshot their airport and streaked across the sky, controllers in Denver and Minneapolis tried repeatedly to reach the plane. They attempted for an hour and 18 minutes to make contact, calling the airline and other pilots for help.
Over an hour passed before U.S. military was notified about Flight 188.But one key group was not notified early on -- the military.
Gen. Gene Renuart -- who, as commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, is responsible for safeguarding the skies -- said NORAD is usually notified within 10 minutes of an unusual incident.
"I think all of us are concerned that an aircraft sort of goes off the net for an extended period of time like that," Renuart said.
In this case, the notification was so late that by the time F-16 fighter jets were ready to launch, controllers and the Northwest pilots were back in touch, according to the general.

Geithner "Burned Billions," Shafted Taxpayers on CIT Loan, Prof. Bill Black Says
http://finance.yahoo.com/techticker/article/364593/Geithner-
It does matter whose right or wrong
Another one of the nation's largest lenders has filed for bankruptcy. On the brink for months, CIT filed for Chapter 11 protection on Sunday.
The prepackaged plan allows CIT to restructure its debt while trying to keep badly needed loans flowing to thousands of mid-sized and small businesses. The plan keeps CIT's operations alive and makes it possible for the company to exit bankruptcy by year's end.
But here's the bad news: While senior debt holders will only lose 30% of their investment, we, the U.S. taxpayer, will lose the entire $2.3 billion we lent the company this summer.
William Black, professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law is dumbfounded. "We put ourselves on the hook in a completely inept way where we lose first. We lose entirely as the taxpayers."
Black, a former top federal banking regulator, blames Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner for negotiating such a bad deal on behalf of the American public.
His argument goes as follows

Why are we paying child benefit in Poland?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/telegraph-view/6475309/Why-are-we-paying-child-benefit-in-Poland.html
Here's a puzzle for you: what are we doing paying benefits for children who do not live in Britain, and may have never visited our shores? The Treasury says it cannot put a figure on the amount, but the best guess is that about £20 million in child benefit was coughed up by British taxpayers last year to support almost 38,000 children living in Poland.

Eu To Ban All Shop Refunds

Care for a taste of global governance to come?
EU BUREAUCRATS want to end the right of shoppers to get their money back for shoddy goods.
This would end the 100 years of protection British consumers have enjoyed.
For more than a century, shops have offered refunds to people who return unwanted or faulty goods.
Plans by the European Union to “harmonise” consumer law will short-change them by removing that right and weakening safeguards.

How Goldman secretly bet on the U.S. housing crash
How Goldman secretly bet on the U.S. housing crash
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/77791.html
In 2006 and 2007, Goldman Sachs Group peddled more than $40 billion in securities backed by at least 200,000 risky home mortgages, but never told the buyers it was secretly betting that a sharp drop in U.S. housing prices would send the value of those securities plummeting.
Goldman's sales and its clandestine wagers, completed at the brink of the housing market meltdown, enabled the nation's premier investment bank to pass most of its potential losses to others before a flood of mortgage defaults staggered the U.S. and global economies.
Only later did investors discover that what Goldman had promoted as triple-A rated investments were closer to junk.
Now, pension funds, insurance companies, labor unions and foreign financial institutions that bought those dicey mortgage securities are facing large losses, and a five-month McClatchy investigation has found that Goldman's failure to disclose that it made secret, exotic bets on an imminent housing crash may have violated securities laws.
"The Securities and Exchange Commission should be very interested in any financial company that secretly decides a financial product is a loser and then goes out and actively markets that product or very similar products to unsuspecting customers without disclosing its true opinion," said Laurence Kotlikoff, a Boston University economics professor who's proposed a massive overhaul of the nation's banks. "This is fraud and should be prosecuted."
