The cuts are coming to Ohio when the state faces a budget shortfall next year.
Everything from Medicaid to education will feel the cuts and Ohio's two top lawmakers admit it won't be pretty, ONN's Jim Heath reported on Thursday.
"Buckle your seat belts because it won't be done quickly," said incoming House Speaker, Rep. William Batchelder (R-Medina). "It's not something you can do without pain."
"Yes, there will be people uncomfortable with some of the cuts, but that's part of the process of deciding," said Sen. Tim Niehaus.
Ohio's budget is around $50 billion and the state faces a shortfall of up to $8 billion.
The federal government likely won't send anymore stimulus money to Ohio and Republicans have vowed no tax increases.
"I think the education community is nervous about what's going to happen," said Damon Asbury from the Ohio School Board Association.

New Library Technologies Dispense With Librarians .

The library of tomorrow leaves no option for those who don't own a computer.
If that's the case or your elderly and don't use a computer, your just shit out of luck.
This is so wrong on so many levels that it's obvious NO ONE thought this idea fully through.
HUGO, Minn.—In this suburb of St. Paul, the new library branch has no librarians, no card catalog and no comfortable chairs in which to curl up and read.

.Instead, the Library Express is a stack of metal lockers outside city hall. When patrons want a book or DVD, they order it online and pick it up from a digitally locked, glove-compartment- sized cubby a few days later. It's a library as conceived by the Amazon.com generation.
Faced with layoffs and budget cuts, or simply looking for ways to expand their reach, libraries around the country are replacing traditional, full-service institutions with devices and approaches that may be redefining what it means to have a library

Camden Closing Library System

This is just plain wrong and needs to be addressed.
Do you think Bill Gates or Warren Buffet might consider this to be a worthy charity to give to? Or does their idea of giving to charity only have to do with 3rd world countries?

Camden's library board says the libraries won't be able to afford to stay open past Dec. 31 because of budget cuts from the city government. The city had its subsidy from the state cut.
The library board president says the library system, which opened in 1904, is preparing to donate, sell or destroy its collections, including 187,000 books.
Board president Martin McKernan says keeping the books around would pose a fire hazard.
Camden's library system is not the only one having financial problems. Fourteen libraries in Queens cut weekend services earlier this year.

Ashtabula County: Judge tells residents to "Arm themselves"

This is how bad it's going to get and exactly what we'll have to deal with.
In the ongoing financial crisis in Ashtabula County, the Sheriff's Department has been cut from 112 to 49 deputies. With deputies assigned to transport prisoners, serve warrants and other duties, only one patrol car is assigned to patrol the entire county of 720 square miles.
"I did the best with what they (the county commissioners) gave me. If it wasn't enough, don't blame me, don't blame this department," said Sheriff Billy Johnson.
Johnson said he is suing the commissioners to get a determination of whether he should use his limited budget to carry out obligations defined by law or put more patrol cars on the streets.

Mental illness tidal wave swamps New Orleans

This will become the norm across America as more and more state budgets are slashed to the bone from lack of personal tax revenue due to the high rise of unemployment.
And the sad part of it is "We ain't seen nothing yet"
A mental health crisis that has swamped this city's care facilities as surely as Hurricane Katrina's floodwaters washed over the Lower 9th Ward is about to become even worse, care providers say.
New Orleans already is struggling with fewer than half of the inpatient beds for the mentally ill that it had before the 2005 hurricane - even as suicide rates and the number of people with mental health problems have doubled.
That shortage is about to become even more acute with the scheduled closing Sept. 1 of the New Orleans Adolescent Hospital (NOAH), the city's only public hospital still providing inpatient services for the mentally ill.
The closure, designed to trim $14 million from the state's 2010 budget, will leave New Orleans with 133 beds for mental health inpatient care and will make the city jail - with 60 of those beds - the city's largest psychiatric ward.
