MANALAPAN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Just 10 days before the High Holidays a New Jersey community woke up to find swastikas and anti-Jewish graffiti all over town.

The photographs show the images neighbors woke up to in Manalapan on Thursday morning — swastikas on street signs, mailboxes, a cable box and a sign saying “kill the Jews” on a picket fence, CBS 2’s Emily Smith reported Friday.

“I saw the commotion, swastika signs and ‘kill the Jews.’ I’ve been here 14 years, never seen anything like it,” resident Howard Weitz said.

Erica DePalo, 33-year-old English teacher at West Orange High School in Montclair, New Jersey, has been accused of engaging in months long sexual realtionship with a 15-year-old male student.

DePalo, the winner of last year’s Essex County’s “Teacher of the Year”, faces charges of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. She was arrested was arrested about 7:30 p.m. last Friday and accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male student she taught in her honor’s English class, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. The relationship allegedly began in June and August 28.

Authorities did not give many details about the nature of the relationship or how it was disclosed, but said the boy was a student in Depalo's honors class. She was also the junior varsity tennis coach at the high school. Depalo’s bail was set at $100,000.

A family claims they couldn't board their cross-country flight to Los Angeles after their son was singled out and discriminated against because he has Down syndrome.

Joan and Robert Vanderhorst were flying on American Airlines from Newark, New Jersey to Newark, NJ to Los Angeles on Sunday with their 16-year-old son Bede.

But they say that as they waited to board the flight, they were told that they weren't allowed on the plane.

Joan pulled out her cell phone and began to videotape, documenting what she believes was a violation of her son's civil rights and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Bede -- who was labeled a flight risk -- can be seen in the video sitting at the gate, quietly playing with his hat.

In the video, you can hear Joan sobbing and her husband expressing disbelief.

"He's behaving," Robert says. "He's demonstrating he's not a problem."

"Of course he's behaving. He's never not behaved," Joan adds.

"I kept saying, 'Is this only because he has Down syndrome?'" Joan said in an interview with KTLA via Skype.

A 16-year-old New Jersey boy was killed after sticking his head out of a party bus and hitting an overpass just after crossing the George Washington Bridge Friday, authorities said.

Wells Fargo is paying $24 million to end an investigation by eight states probing whether lenders acquired by the company made risky mortgages to consumers without disclosing their perils.

The states said loans known as option adjustable rate loans, or "pick-a-payment" mortgages, were deceptive to borrowers. Those particularly toxic loans allowed borrowers to defer some of their interest payments and add them to the principal balance. Borrowers could make payments so low that loan debt actually increased every month.

San Francisco-based Wells Fargo & Co. announced the agreement Wednesday with attorneys general in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, Texas and Washington state.

The loans were made by Wachovia Corp. and a California company it acquired, World Savings Bank. Wells purchased Wachovia at the end of 2008. Wachovia had already stopped making those loans before the acquisition was complete. ye

As part of the agreement, Wells has agreed to offer loan assistance worth more than $770 million to more than 8,700 borrowers through June 2013, though that amount will depend on how the economy fares during that time. The $24 million will be used to help states reach out to customers who took out such loans.

The agreement includes no admission of wrongdoing by Wells Fargo.

Commuters' clothing, pockets, bags and vehicles to be randomly searched

Commuters who ride PATCO trains between southern New Jersey and Philadelphia should expect random searches of their clothing, pockets, bags and vehicles on their morning trip to work.

Twelve Transportation Security Administration screeners, armed with an explosive-sniffing K-9, checked 663 commuter bags randomly selected from the morning rush at the Lindenwold station Tuesday.

The chief says that out of the 663 bags searched between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., a crack pipe was the only item confiscated.

“We can conduct any kind of search we want," said McClintock. "We could ask TSA to bring wands or X-ray machines like they have in airports, though we don't think that's appropriate for PATCO riders at this time."
