Condoleezza Rice forced to defend Bush-era interrogation tactics to children

I just love her last statement, don't worry about what's out there.
Perhaps it is more fitting to actually worry about what leaders like her and Bush and Cheney have done to our constitutional rights, because everything she described you can be subject to also, under the Patriot Act.

Well this finds me well and how are you
A fine pen I must say for these last days of few
What's got your back baby
When you take the eye view
Can you feel the foundation of the sand shifting to
What once was now can never be
There were to many raiders that were traitors to me
How can you sink your own so on purposely
Why is greed not against the law when it causes such poverty
Where would one start to fair up the rule
To make a prophet is one thing but to rape is uncool
Somewhere on the line there should be a divider for fools
That says one step more and you've gone astray
To the other side of ethical into the dangerous way
Who stands for the tribe and says you can't fuck the whole
It goes against the grain for the common goods roll

With a different eye
My thoughts were much the same
But the moral seen through a different eye
Says he only played the game
The pie in the sky
Is what he's have you buy
To give him pocket change
He's just another Wall Street guy
Meant to only play the game
I lost respect from his lack of neglect
Of ethics his are just the same
Let the little man cry
For lack of respect to claim
The market is a rich man's game
With a different eye

Top Senate Democrat: bankers "own" the U.S. Congress
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/04/30/ownership/
How in the name of ethics is this a possibility?
And WHO made up the rule that it was?
Sen. Dick Durbin, on a local Chicago radio station this week, blurted out an obvious truth about Congress that, despite being blindingly obvious, is rarely spoken: "And the banks -- hard to believe in a time when we're facing a banking crisis that many of the banks created -- are still the most powerful lobby on Capitol Hill. And they frankly own the place." The blunt acknowledgment that the same banks that caused the financial crisis "own" the U.S. Congress -- according to one of that institution's most powerful members -- demonstrates just how extreme this institutional corruption is.
The ownership of the federal government by banks and other large corporations is effectuated in literally countless ways, none more effective than the endless and increasingly sleazy overlap between government and corporate officials. Here is just one random item this week announcing a couple of standard personnel moves:
Former Barney Frank staffer now top Goldman Sachs lobbyist
Goldman Sachs' new top lobbyist was recently the top staffer to Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., on the House Financial Services Committee chaired by Frank. Michael Paese, a registered lobbyist for the Securities Industries and Financial Markets Association since he left Frank's committee in September, will join Goldman as director of government affairs, a role held last year by former Tom Daschle intimate, Mark Patterson, now the chief of staff at the Treasury Department. This is not Paese's first swing through the Wall Street-Congress revolving door: he previously worked at JP

Military police at Kentucky Derby
Does it seem strange to anyone else that we as a nation must hire contract killers to fight the war for lack service personnel, but we as a nation can use that very same lack of personnel to police our own people?

A Google News search does not produce a story or even a brief mention of the fact military police were on hand at the Kentucky Derby to keep restless plebs in line. However, an Associated Press photograph, posted on the Yahoo! News website, shows two MPs in combat fatigues with side arms restraining a man at the derby.

Worries Rise on the Size of U.S. Debt

The nation’s debt clock is ticking faster than ever — and Wall Street is getting worried.
The Rising Government Debt May Benefit Some Investors As the Obama administration racks up an unprecedented spending bill for bank bailouts, Detroit rescues, health care overhauls and stimulus plans, the bond market is starting to push up the cost of trillions of dollars in borrowing for the government

White House Denies Charge By Attorney that Administration Threatened to Destroy Investment Firm's Reputation*
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/05/bankruptcy-atto.html
A leading bankruptcy attorney representing hedge funds and money managers told ABC News Saturday that Steve Rattner, the leader of the Obama administration's Auto Industry Task Force, threatened one of the firms, an investment bank, that if it continued to oppose the administration's Chrysler bankruptcy plan, the White House would use the White House press corps to destroy its reputation.
The White House and a spokesperson for the investment bank in question challenged the accuracy of the story.
"The charge is completely untrue," said White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton, "and there's obviously no evidence to suggest that this happened in any way."
Thomas Lauria, Global Practice Head of the Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Group at White & Case, told ABC News that Rattner suggested to an official of the boutique investment bank Perella Weinberg Partners that officials of the Obama White House would embarrass the firm for opposing the Obama administration plan, which President Obama announced Thursday, and which requires creditors to accept roughly 29 cents on the dollar for an estimated $6.8 billion owed by Chrysler.
Lauria first told the story, without naming Rattner, to Frank Beckmann on Detroit's WJR-AM radio.
Perella Weinberg Partners, Lauria said, "was directly threatened by the White House and in essence compelled to withdraw its opposition to the deal under the threat that the full force of the White House press corps would destroy its reputation if it continued to fight. That’s how hard it is to stand on this side of the fence."
