Why would the IMF want to eliminate the bank tax?
I don't see that being in any country's best interest. It actually makes no sense to me.

Hungary’s prime minister has long had a testy relationship with the International Monetary Fund — and on Thursday he used Facebook to unfriend the agency and reject its allegedly tough loan conditions.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a video message on his official Facebook page that Hungary could not accept pension cuts, the elimination of a bank tax, fewer public employees and other conditions in exchange for an IMF loan that other officials have said could be about €15 billion ($18.9 billion).

Perhaps America can take a lesson here, rather than to continually cater to those that commit the crimes.


The managing director of the company whose reservoir unleashed a lethal torrent of red sludge on three villages last week has been arrested, the Hungarian prime minister announced before Parliament on Monday.

He will be charged with criminal negligence leading to a public catastrophe, and if convicted could face a sentence of up to 10 years, according to a government spokeswoman.

How does a dam this thick fail?

Their draining the other reservoirs and their putting it into a river that was already killed by the first spill.
So how did the first spill get to the Danube?
I flowed down the river.
So their going to take away the acidity by dumping gypsum in it to neutralize it,
But
The big question is
What about all the heavy metal?
Are they just hoping everybody forgot it was in the chemical analysis of the red mud?
Lead, uranium and some other pretty toxic stuff are now just being dumped at random into the rivers, without a thought to what that's going to do?
Their fix is making another HUGE problem.

An official says caustic water is being drained from an industrial reservoir near the one that ruptured in western Hungary and sent a torrent of red sludge into hundreds of houses and waterways leading into the Danube.

Tibor Dobson told the state MTI news agency that 100,000 cubic meters (3.5 million cubic feet) of the fluid is being gradually released into a local river already declared dead in the wake of Monday's environmental catastrophe. The move is apparently meant to prevent new spills of toxic material.

Dobson said Friday that gypsum will be dropped into the river to neutralize the alkaline effect of the fluid.

The red sludge entered the Danube Wednesday amid fears that it will kill off the river's fish and plant life. But there have been no reports of major damage to the waterway's ecosystem

And how far has it traveled to hit the danube and it's still a ten?
It's not diluting to fast for such a high concentrate of water.

People were doused with this stuff in the town where it broke at.
Their homes were flooded with it.

The red sludge reached the western branch of the Danube early Thursday, Hungarian rescue agency spokesman Tibor Dobson told the state MTI news agency. He did not address concerns that the caustic slurry might contain toxic metals but said its pH content had been reduced to the point where it was unlikely to cause further damage to the environment.

Dobson said the pH content, which officials earlier said was at 13, was now under 10 and no dead fish had been spotted where the slurry was entering the Danube. The National Disaster Management Directorate, in a separate statement, said the pH value was at 9.3 and constantly decreasing. Normal ph levels for surface water range from 6.5 to 8.5.

South of Hungary, the Danube flows through Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Moldova before emptying into the Black Sea.
