DOJ Asks Courts To Lighten Up On Qualcomm As It Battles China For 5G Supremacy
The Department of Justice wants the legal system to go lenient on Qualcomm as the telecommunications giant wrestles with a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit claiming the company is a monopoly.
“[I]n the event that the court finds liability on any of the FTC’s claims, the court should order additional briefing and hold a hearing on issues related to a remedy,” the DOJ said in a statement of interest filed in a U.S. district court in California. The court should be careful, the DOJ added, noting its concerns that a punishment could affect fifth generation mobile phone development.

Trump Cuts Off States From Skimming Medicaid Payments For Big Labor
The Trump administration finalized a rule Thursday scrapping a 2014 Medicaid regulation allowing states to divert payments meant for caretakers to unions.
The Obama administration issued a regulation that protected a state practice that had, by that time, been practiced for decades. Since the 1990s, states have accepted Medicaidmoney from the federal government meant for home health service providers, often the family or friends of the Medicaid-assistance recipient, according to the conservative think tank Freedom Foundation.
In distributing checks to the health providers, some states had begun skimming money and diverting it to unions and other interest groups in the form of dues, even though home health providers may not be members. Republican Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi will not seek re-election in 2020, he announced Saturday.
“I have much to get done in the next year and a half,” Enzi said according to the Casper Star-Tribune. “I want to focus on budget reform. I don’t want to be burdened by the distractions of another campaign. After this year, I’ll find other ways to serve.”
Enzi, 75, made the announcement at Gillette City Hall in the Wyoming city where he began his political career more than 40 years ago as mayor.
Enzi is chair of the Senate Budget Committee and has been in office for 22 years. He has passed more than 100 bills since taking office in 1997, according to the Casper Star-Tribune.
