The United States is now monetizing it's own debt, but we're still forking over for military aid to other countries all in the name of "the war on terror".
How screwed up is this little gift to Pakistan, knowing that we reneged on our pledge of aid to Haiti?
Apparently respect can be bought.
The United States is expected to offer Pakistan a new security pact, worth up to $2 billion over five years in military aid, as the two countries aim to patch up their crisis-prone relationship during meetings in Washington starting on Wednesday
In the run-up to the talks, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistan's Foreign Minister, summed up the country's frustration by saying the relationship had suffered "two steps back" with the drone attacks and helicopter raid.
"We are an ally, not a satellite," he said at Harvard University on Monday.
"We have to protect our borders – you have to respect our sovereignty."
American officials have suggested that the three-day summit will include up to $2 billion in military aid so that Pakistan is unable to claim it lacks the capacity to tackle insurgents.
"They do need more capacity and the kinds of capabilities that are geared toward fighting extremists, rather than a major land conflict," an unnamed official told CNN.
